This section explains Settings for customizing your device.

Control your device’s wireless connections.

Accessing Settings

From a Home screen, press the Menu Key Settings.– or –From a Home screen, touch ApplicationsSettings

 

Wireless and network

Control your device's wireless connections

 

Wi-Fi settings

Your device supports Wi-Fi b/g/n. Use Wi-Fi settings to manage your device’s Wi-Fi connections.

 

Turning Wi-Fi On or Off

Turn your device’s Wi-Fi service on or off. When you turn Wi-Fi service on, your device automatically searches for available, in-range Wireless Access Points (WAPs).

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ Wireless and network.

2. Touch Wi-Fi settings, then touch Wi-Fi to turn Wi-Fi On or Off. When on, a check appears in the checkbox.

 

Network notification

Have your device alert you to new Wireless Access Points (WAPs).

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ Wireless and network.

2. Touch Wi-Fi settings, then touch Network notification to turn notifications On or Off.

When on, a check appears in the checkbox.

 

Sound settings

General

Volume

Set the volume level for all types of sounds.

Note: You can only set volume when Silent Mode is disabled.

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ Sound settings→ Volume.

2. Touch and drag the sliders to set:

  • Media volume: Playback of music, videos and other multimedia content.
  • Alarm volume: Notifications for alarms set in Clock.
  • System volume: Application sounds, and other sounds made by your device.
  • Notification volume: Sounds for alerts to new messages and other events.

3. Touch OK to save your setting.

Tip: You can also set Device Volume from the Home screen by pressing the Volume Key.

Notifications

Screen lock sounds

When enabled, tones play when unlocking and locking the screen.

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ Sound settings.

2. Touch Screen lock sounds to enable or disable tones. When enabled, a check mark appears

in the check box.

 

Display settings

Brightness

Set the default screen brightness.

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key Settings Display settings Brightness.

2. Touch and drag the slider to set the brightness, or touch Automatic brightness.

3. Touch OK to save the setting.

Animation

Set the level of animations for transitions between screens.

1.From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ Display settings→ Animation.

2.Touch No animation, Some animations, or All animations.

 

Screen timeout

Set the length of delay between the last key press or screen touch and the automatic screen timeout

(dim and lock).

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ Display settings→ Screen timeout.

2. Touch a setting to select it.

 

Screen unlock settings

Passwords

Set screen lock

Choose settings for unlocking your screen.

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ Location and security.

2. Touch Set screen lock/Change screen lock for these settings:

  • None: Touch to disable all screen lock settings.
  • Pattern: A screen unlock pattern is a touch gesture you create and use to unlock your device.
    Follow the prompts to create or change your screen unlock pattern.
  • PIN: Touch to select a PIN to use for unlocking the screen.
  • Password: Touch to create a password for unlocking the screen.

 

Visible passwords

When enabled, password characters will display briefly as you touch them while entering passwords.

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ Location and security.

2. Touch Visible passwords to enable or disable brief displays of password characters. When enabled,

a check mark appears in the check box.

 

Device administration

Add or remove device administrators.

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ Location and security.

2. Touch Select device administrators.

 

 

Applications

You can download and install applications from an app market, or create applications using the Android SDK and install them on your device. Use Applications settings to manage applications.

Warning!: Because this device can be configured with system software not provided by or supported by Touchsquid, Google or any other company, end-users operate these devices at their own risk.

 

Unknown sources

When Unknown sources is enabled, you can install of application from sources other than the Android Market.

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ Applications.

2. Touch Unknown sources to enable or disable the setting. When enabled, a check mark appears in the check box.

 

Manage applications

Manage and remove applications from your device.

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ Applications Manage applications.

2. Touch an application to view and update information about the application, including memory usage, default

 

 

Running services

View and control services running on your device.

Warning!: Not all services can be stopped, and stopping services may have undesirable consequences on the application or Android System.

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ Applications Running services.

2. To stop a service, touch the service, then touch Stop at the confirmation prompt.

 

Development

Set options for application development.

 

USB debugging

When enabled, allows debugging when the device is attached to a PC by a USB cable.

Note: This setting is used for development purposes.

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ Applications Development.

2. Touch USB debugging to enable or disable the setting. When enabled, a check mark appears in the check box.

 

Stay awake

When enabled, the screen will not go to sleep (lock) while connected to a PC via USB cable. This can be useful when using some applications, such as 3G Mobile Hotspot, because the device will disconnect a Wi-Fi connection when the screen locks.

Note: This setting is used for development purposes.

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ Applications Development.

2. Touch Stay awake to enable or disable the setting. When enabled, a check mark appears in the check box.

 

Allow mock locations

This setting is used by developers when developing location-based applications.

Note: This setting is used for development purposes.

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ Applications Development.

2. Touch Allow mock locations to enable or disable the setting. When enabled, a check mark appears in the box.

 

Accounts and sync

Set up and manage accounts, including your Google and Backup Assistant accounts.

 

General sync settings

Background data

When enabled, all accounts can sync, send, and receive data at any time, in the background.

Important!: Disabling background data can extend battery life and lower data use. Some applications may still use the background data connection, even if this setting is disabled.

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key →Settings→ Accounts and sync.

2. Touch Background data to enable or disable the setting. When enabled, a check mark appears

in the check box.

 

Auto-sync

When enabled, all accounts sync data at any time, automatically.

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ Accounts and sync.

2. Touch Auto-sync to enable or disable the setting. When enabled, a check mark appears in the check box.

 

Manage accounts

Use Manage accounts to set up and configure your accounts.

 

Note: Available settings depend on the type of account. Not all settings are available for all accounts.

 

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ Accounts and sync.

2. Under Manage accounts, touch the account to modify its settings.

 

Adding an account

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ Accounts and sync

2. Under Manage accounts, touch Add account and follow the prompts to enter your credentials and set up the account

 

Removing an account

Important!: Removing an account also deletes all of its messages, contacts and other data from the device.

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ Accounts and sync.

2. Touch an account to display its settings.

3. Touch Remove account, then touch Remove account at the prompt to remove the account and delete

all its messages, contacts and other data.

 

SD card and device storage

Manage the use of memory resources in your device’s internal memory, and on an installed memory card.

External SD card

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ SD card and device storage.

2. View Total space and Available space memory usage on an installed memory card (not user-configurable).

3. Touch Unmount SD card to prepare the memory card for safe removal or formatting. For more

information, see “Removing a Memory Card” on page10.

4. Touch Format SD card to erase the memory card and prepare it for use with your device.

 

 

Internal device storage

View usage for your device’s 16 GB internal memory.

Note: This setting cannot be configured.

From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ SD card and device storage→ Available space.

 

Web

Configure settings for web searches.

 

 

Google search

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→ Settings→ Search→ Google search.

2. Touch Show web suggestions to enable or disable display of suggestions from Google as you type

search criteria.

3. Touch Use My Location to enable or disable to customized Google search results and other

4. Touch Search history to enable or disable saving of search criteria and results.

5. Touch Manage search history to configure settings for search history.

Language and keyboard

Google services based on your location information.

 

Select locale

Set the language used by your device.

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key Settings→  Language and keyboard→  Select locale.

2. Touch a language/locale from the list.

Configure text entry options to your preferences.

Text settings

Select input method

Choose the default text entry method.

From a Home screen, press the Menu Key Settings Language and keyboard Select input method.

 

Touchsquid

View information about your pad, including status, legal information, hardware and software versions.

1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key→  Settings→  Touchsquid.

2. Touch items to view details:

  • System updates: Check for available updates for your pad.
  • Status: View Battery status, Battery level, Pad number, MIN, PRL version, ERI version, MEID, Network, Signal strength, Mobile network type, Service state, Roaming, Mobile network state, Wi-Fi MAC address, Bluetooth address, and Up time.
  • Battery use: Display processes and applications that are running. Touch and hold on an item to view details.
  • Legal information: Display open source licenses, License settings, and Google legal information.
  • Android version: Display the Android version of your pad.
  • Model number: Display your pad’s model number.
  • Baseband version: Display the baseband version of your pad.
  • Kernel version: Display the kernel version of your pad.
  • Build number: Display your pad’s build number.
